About Us

The Red House Gift Shop, located at the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site, raises revenue to help preserve a nationally significant part of Canada’s history. Proceeds from the Red House Gift Shop create economic opportunities for rural Albertans while supporting the vibrancy of Drumheller Valley’s historic mining communities.

Operated by the Atlas Coal Mine Historical Society (no. 50412366), the Atlas Coal Mine has both provincial and national historic designations. It is one of Canada’s most complete historic coal mines and preserves the last of 139 mines which comprised the 20th-century Drumheller coal fields. The Atlas receives no ongoing operational funding from the government and all proceeds from the Red House Gift Shop help the Atlas to achieve its strategic goals as a National Historic Site. The shop supports site conservation, educational programs, year-round and seasonal jobs, and much more. The Red House Gift Shop works with local artists and vendors and strives to support Alberta-based businesses.
